Wrestling: Seven Place, Patriots Finish Fifth at Battle At Germantown

FORT WASHINGTON -- Germantown Academy's wrestling team hosted Blair Academy, Northfield Mount Hermon, Wyoming Seminary, Hill School, Lower Moreland, Belmont Hill, Westtown School, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, and Friends Central for the Battle at Germantown on Saturday, Dec. 2. As a team, the Patriots earned 110.5 points to finish fifth in the standings, while seven individuals finished the day as placewinners. 

After a first-round bye, Robert Leeds '25, wrestling at 132 pounds, took down Habib Davis (LM) by fall in the quarterfinals. Matched up against teammate Eric Catenacci '26 in the semifinal, Leeds won by decision, 8-1. The junior lost the first-place bout to Colby Houle of (NMH) by decision, 6-0, to finish second. Catenacci finished fifth in the weight class.

Seeded No. 1 at 113 pounds, Jack Baron '26 won by decision in the semifinals over Dom Marinilli (NMH), but lost to Michael Batista (Blair) in the first-place bout, 1-5, to take second place. Wrestling at 106 pounds, Justin Farnsworth '27 won his first two matches by decision, before dropping the first-place bout to Vince Anello (Blair) by Major Decision, 11-3. 

Luke Sugalski '25 took fourth place at 165 pounds, winning in the quarterfinals over Evan Holgate (Westtown) by tech fall, 17-2. Sugalski dropped his semifinal bout to Reese Spiro (NMH), but won his consolation semifinal against MJ Scialla (Blair) to advance to the third-place bout. However, Sugalski lost to Christopher Crawford (WYSM) by decision, 3-1. 

After dropping his first match to Nikos Filipos (WYSM), Shai Sabag '27 battled through the consolation bracket to take fifth place at 120 pounds. Matched up against teammate Jhais Williams '25 in the consolation quarterfinals, Sabag won by fall before losing to Ellis Kirsch (Blair) in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place bout, Sabag defeated Jeck Selfies (WYSM) by fall. 

Jack Breme '26 finished fifth at 150 pounds, winning his first bout over Shodibek Pulatov (LM) by decision, 3-2. Breme dropped his next bout against Conlan Boyer (Hill), but won his consolation bout over Jacob Xu (Hill) by decision, 9-2. The sophomore won by fall over Matthew Wuller (LM) in the consolation quarterfinals, but lost by fall to Luke Holgate (Westtown) in the consolation semifinals. Breme won the fifth-place bout by forefeit over Su Young Yang (WYSM).

Also competing on the day were Adam Seidman '27, Aidan Lee '27, and Jayden Trifun 27.

The Patriots return to action on Dec. 9 from the Sam Lovello Classic at Brandywine Heights High School.
